Clerkship

Welcome to the Psychiatry Clerkship (PSC 608 - COM and PSC 641 - CHM)

The MSU Psychiatry Clerkship is a four-week clinical experience for students in the College of Human Medicine and the College of Osteopathic Medicine. The clerkship is community-based. Students participate in clinical care in several settings, including hospitals, offices, community mental health centers, and rehabilitation facilities. The clerkship is designed to expose students to the contemporary practice of psychiatry.

All sites share common goals and objectives. The major focus of our clerkship experience is to develop skills in interviewing, diagnosing, and clinical decision-making in the psychiatric care of patients. At the end of the clerkship, our students have a greater appreciation for the depth and complexity of mental illness and its impact on patients’ quality of life and health.
